New BMW 2 Series Active Tourer announced

The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is to feature front wheel drive for the first time in the company’s history and it also has a three cylinder 1.5 litre turbo petrol engine that also features in the new mini. It has long been thought that BMW would always stick to their rear wheel drive configuration, but with the competition being so intense in that class, front wheel drive seems to be the only option.

It is now incorporating things that have come to be expected from many other manufacturers of MPV’s such as sliding rear seats which can add to the room in the boot, the usual cup holders and the rear seats also recline and are split. Many in the industry will see the look of the Mercedes B class and it has been the great success of that car that has no doubt brought about the new BMW, but it had to have front wheel drive to effectively compete.

Apart from the three cylinder engine, it is also being offered with a 2.0 litre turbo and a 2.0 litre diesel version. It is being offered with all the usual extras such as head up display and is due to make its debut at the Geneva show on March the 4th. Prices here are expected to start at around the £23,000 mark.
