You may have seen the advertisements on TV about becoming a driving instructor and thought ‘I could do that’, but what do you need to do? Becoming a driving instructor is like becoming your own boss, you can choose your working hours and you get to meet new people every day. Before you apply to become a driving instructor its a good idea to check that you are eligible; you don’t need any formal qualifications, but the Driving Standards Agency will need you to:

•    Have held a full UK or European Union driving licence for at least four years.
•    Have not been disqualified from driving for any reason in the four years before you start your instructor training.
•    Have the ability to read car number plates from a distance of 90 Feet (27.5 meters).
•    Be ‘fit and proper in the opinion of the Driving Standards Agency.
